A partial removal of these substances is performed, prioritizing the material that can be taken out without risk to important tissues. The Vitto MD difference
Open technique, not aspiration
Encapsulated biopolymer cannot be aspirated. We perform open resection of the affected tissue, which allows us to remove the material along with the surrounding fibrosis and see the plane we're treating directly.
MRI before surgery
No biopolymer removal begins without knowing where the material is. An MRI reveals the true extent of infiltration, migration into other areas and the affected plane, and determines whether the case requires one or several surgical stages.
Contour reconstruction
Removing the material leaves a volume defect. We plan reconstruction using your own tissue or local flaps, either in the same procedure or at a later stage, aiming for a harmonious and functional shape.

Frequently asked questions
More about this procedure
What are biopolymers and why should they be removed?
They are synthetic substances injected for cosmetic purposes that the body cannot absorb or eliminate. Over time they migrate, cause chronic inflammation and can compromise tissue, which is why surgical removal is recommended.
Is biopolymer removal surgery safe?
It is major surgery that must be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon in an accredited operating room, with imaging studies beforehand. Like any surgical procedure it carries risks, which are evaluated and explained during your consultation based on your case.
How long does biopolymer removal take?
It depends on the area and the extent of the infiltration. Localized cases can be resolved in a single surgical stage; extensive cases require several stages to preserve blood supply to the skin.
Can all biopolymers be removed?
No. The material infiltrates between tissues and cannot be fully recovered. The goal is to remove as much as possible along with the affected tissue, stop the inflammation and restore shape and function.
What results can I expect after biopolymer removal?
Improvement is gradual over several months. Beyond the change in contour, most patients report relief from pain and from the chronic inflammatory process. The outcome includes scars, whose extent depends on the area and the volume removed.
